Majority Indigenous-owned joint venture combines proven service delivery with meaningful employment, training and economic opportunities for the Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation
CALGARY, AB – Oosita Group of Companies Inc., the business entity of the Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation (FCMN), and WCD (West Canadian Digital Imaging Inc.), an Alberta-based family enterprise founded in 1952, announce the launch of Oosita-WCD, a majority Indigenous-owned joint venture providing mailroom, digitization, and managed print and document services to oil sands operators across the Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation’s traditional territory in northeastern Alberta.
The partnership brings together two organizations with deep Alberta roots and a shared commitment to long-term relationships, dependable service and community investment. Oosita takes its name from the Cree word “Oostá,” meaning to take what work there is and get it done, and exists to build lasting prosperity for the Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation. WCD has been a family enterprise for almost 75 years, delivering document and workplace services to organizations across the public and private sectors.
Together, Oosita and WCD are creating a service organization that helps customers manage the essential document and information services their organizations rely on every day, while creating meaningful employment, training and business opportunities for Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation members and member-owned businesses.

For operators, Oosita-WCD provides a trusted service partner capable of supporting day-to-day document, print and mail requirements as well as larger digitization initiatives, along with a meaningful way to grow Indigenous participation in their supply chains. Services include:
- Mailroom services, including incoming and outgoing mail, courier management, tracking, distribution and digital mailroom solutions;
- Document scanning and digitization, converting paper records into secure, searchable digital information;
- Records and document management to help organizations organize, access and manage critical business information;
- Intelligent document intake and workflow solutions that capture, classify and route incoming documents and information;
- Print and document distribution, including onsite print centres and document distribution for site and office needs; and
- Onsite managed services, with trained teams providing ongoing print, mailroom, scanning and document services within customer locations.
WCD is the joint venture’s operating partner, responsible for service delivery, contracting and site certification, and already supports energy-sector operations across Alberta, including in the oil sands. Oosita is the engagement partner, supporting Indigenous engagement with operators’ teams and their procurement and supply chain systems.

We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Oosita. As a second-generation family business with roots in Alberta, we think in generations, not quarters, and so does the Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation,” said Karen Brookman, President & CEO, WCD. “Together, we’re building something that will last – better back offices for operators, and real opportunity for the community whose traditional territory these operations are on.”
For Fort Chipewyan, the impact is direct. FCMN members and member-owned businesses get first consideration for employment and contracting opportunities, and FCMN members hired through the venture receive the same training as all WCD employees. Revenue Oosita earns is reinvested in community programs including education, healthcare, housing and culture.
